Construction Begins on New Road in District 13 of Kabul

Kabul Municipality has announced the official launch of construction work on a new road in the western part of the Afghan capital, stretching from the Hamam-e-Naqqash Road to the Omid-e-Sabz township in District 13. The project has entered the implementation phase following site clearance and removal of obstacles.
According to municipal officials, the road will be approximately 3 kilometers long and 30 meters wide. It will include drainage systems, standardized sidewalks, plant boxes, lighting posts, signage, and road markings. The Municipality has pledged that the project will be completed within less than a year.
Officials say the road is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the Barchi area. Additionally, it aims to boost economic activity and improve access for residents of surrounding neighborhoods.
The new road is part of Kabul Municipality’s broader plan to improve the city’s transportation infrastructure. However, there are serious concerns about transparency, construction quality, and public participation under Taliban rule. The Taliban administration, which governs Kabul without international recognition, has repeatedly faced criticism for mismanagement of urban projects. Observers fear this latest project could encounter technical challenges, corruption, and lack of proper oversight, similar to other initiatives under their control.
