FAO to Support 4,000 Farming Families in Afghanistan

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has said it will support 4,000 vulnerable farming families in Afghanistan with financial backing from Belgium’s foreign ministry, in a move focused on protecting livelihoods and sustaining food production in a crisis.
The agency wrote on X on Monday, 26 Asad, that the programme will be implemented through the Special Fund for Emergency and Resilience Activities (SFERA). According to FAO, the aim is to help farming families continue working, preserve their livelihoods and increase their preparedness for future crises.
FAO said the support could strengthen the ability of the targeted families to cope with the challenges ahead and prevent them from becoming even more vulnerable.
The programme was announced as Afghanistan continues to face a humanitarian crisis and economic hardship, with a large part of the country’s population dependent on agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization is one of the UN’s specialized agencies working on food security and support for rural livelihoods.
