Wheat Seed and Fertilizer Distributed to Farmers in Sar-e Pol

The Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Sar-e Pol province has announced that it has distributed agricultural aid packages consisting of improved wheat seeds and chemical fertilizers to 311 local farmers in the provincial capital. These farmers had previously been surveyed and selected by the relevant department.
According to Qari Abdul Qadir Wahdat, head of the Sar-e Pol Agriculture Department, each farmer received a package containing 50 kilograms of improved wheat seed, 50 kilograms of white fertilizer, and 50 kilograms of black fertilizer. Additionally, each farmer was given 260 afghanis to cover the cost of transporting the supplies.
While Sar-e Pol is considered one of the agricultural provinces in northern Afghanistan, local farmers face challenges including limited resources and a lack of attention from governmental structures. Although the Taliban administration currently oversees government institutions—including the Department of Agriculture—criticism remains over the lack of transparency and disregard for the basic needs of farmers.
The farming community in Sar-e Pol has welcomed the aid but is calling for more sustained programs and technical consultation to improve agricultural capacity. They argue that such temporary measures are insufficient for improving farmers’ livelihoods, and a more comprehensive approach to agriculture is needed.
