Over 20 Tons of Smuggled Goods Seized in Helmand, 13 Arrested

The Helmand Provincial Sub-Customs Directorate announced that over the past week, more than 20 tons of illegal food and non-food items were prevented from entering the province. According to officials from this department, these shipments were intercepted before being distributed in Helmand’s markets.
Haji Haqmal, head of Helmand’s Sub-Customs, stated in a press release that the total weight of these goods reached 20,266 kilograms. He added that these goods were being transported by 11 trucks from routes connected to Helmand’s center and the districts of Garmsir and Bahramcha.
According to the information provided, mobile customs teams discovered and confiscated these shipments during monitoring operations. Additionally, in connection with these cases, 13 individuals were arrested with the cooperation of security forces.
The head of Helmand’s Sub-Customs further mentioned that after preliminary investigations, the files of the detained individuals will be handed over to relevant authorities for legal action to be taken. The Taliban administration has repeatedly spoken about combating smuggling in recent months, but no further details have been provided regarding the final fate of these cases or the transparency of the prosecution process.
