Uzbekistan’s Power Supply to Afghanistan Restored After Balkh Earthquake

The state-run electricity company, Breshna, now operating under Taliban control, announced on Tuesday, November 13, that Uzbekistan’s electricity supply to Afghanistan has been restored after service was disrupted by a recent earthquake in the country’s north.
According to the agency, with the repair of damaged transmission lines, power has been restored to the provinces of Kabul, Baghlan, Parwan, Panjshir, Kapisa, Logar, Paktia, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Laghman, and Nangarhar.
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck several northern provinces last week disrupted the imported electricity network. In addition to the outage of power from Uzbekistan, electricity imported from Tajikistan was also affected.
The Taliban administration’s report on restoring power lines comes amid growing concerns over the country’s energy resources and infrastructure since the group took power. Access to reliable electricity services has remained uncertain and frequently disrupted for the Afghan population.
