Six Afghan Cricketers Selected for 2026 Sri Lanka Premier League

Six players from Afghanistan’s national cricket team have been selected to participate in the 2026 season of the Sri Lanka Premier League, highlighting the growing prominence of Afghan players in regional Twenty20 franchise cricket. The tournament is scheduled to begin on July 17.
According to the announced team rosters, Ibrahim Zadran has been signed by the defending champions, Jaffna Kings. Najibullah Zadran will don the Colombo Caps jersey this season.
Continuing the trend of recruiting Afghan players, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Zaher Khan have both joined the Kandy Royals. Additionally, Fazal Haq Farooqi and Gulbadin Naib will play for the Dambulla Giants.
The Sri Lanka Premier League, held in the Twenty20 format, is entering its sixth edition this year. The competition features five teams and is considered one of the most prestigious franchise-based cricket leagues in South Asia.
