UN-Habitat Rebuilds Abu Ali Sina School in Herat Following 2023 Earthquake

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has announced the reconstruction of the Abu Ali Sina School in Injil District of Herat Province, which was damaged in the 2023 earthquake. More than 500 students are now able to continue their education in a safe environment.
The agency stated on Tuesday, 21 April 2024, that the devastating 2023 earthquake severely damaged the school’s building, forcing students to attend classes in unsafe conditions.
According to UN-Habitat, the rebuilding of the school was supported by the Afghanistan Trust Fund within the United Nations, with a cost amounting to 56,000 US dollars. Program officials emphasized that the school has now been transformed into a suitable and secure learning environment.
The 2023 earthquakes caused widespread damage across parts of Herat, destroying several educational facilities. UN-Habitat had previously reported on the reconstruction of multiple other schools in the affected areas of the province.
