Pakistan Reports Rise in Terrorist Activity from Afghanistan Since Taliban Takeover

Pakistan’s representative at the United Nations has reported an increase in terrorist activities following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. He stated that several terrorist groups, supported externally, have reactivated and are conducting operations against Pakistan from Afghan territory.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said that groups such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) have “regained vitality” after the change of power in Kabul and are threatening the security of Pakistan’s border areas. According to him, these groups are exploiting the lack of effective oversight across the borders.
The Pakistani envoy further added that recent BLA attacks in the province of Balochistan have resulted in the deaths of 48 civilians. He also claimed that Pakistani security forces have killed 145 members of these groups during counter-operations.
These statements come as the Taliban administration continues to assert that Afghan soil is not used against other countries. Nevertheless, ongoing regional concerns and frequent discussion of this issue in international forums have intensified questions regarding the Taliban’s accountability in fulfilling its security commitments.
