Taliban Spokesperson Announces Improved Relations and Growing Trade Between Afghanistan and Iran

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban administration, has announced that relations between Afghanistan and Iran have improved in recent months, with progress made in various areas. He also revealed plans to increase the level of trade between the two countries.

According to Mujahid, there is currently no “major concern” between Kabul and Tehran, and forces stationed along the shared border maintain good coordination. Afghanistan and Iran share a border of over 900 kilometers, with border issues historically being a significant aspect of bilateral relations.

The Taliban spokesperson emphasized that the two countries have mutual respect for each other, and their relationship is moving in a positive direction. This comes despite occasional tensions reported at some border crossings in recent years.

In a radio interview, Mujahid added that the current trade volume between Afghanistan and Iran, estimated at around three billion dollars, is planned to increase to ten billion dollars. He stated that programs to achieve this goal have been initiated and are underway.

However, the Taliban administration has yet to provide specific details regarding the practical mechanisms, timelines, or enforcement guarantees of these plans. The lack of transparency in economic statistics and planning has long been a criticism voiced by economic activists and observers within the country.
