Taliban Recruit 400 Young Men from Panjshir

The Taliban in Panjshir province announced the recruitment of 400 young men into their military structure, following orders from the group’s Ministry of Defense.

According to a statement released on Saturday, September 27, by the Taliban’s media office in Panjshir, the recruits will be transferred to military training centers. The Taliban did not specify the locations of these facilities or the nature of the training programs.

Panjshir has long been a stronghold of resistance against Taliban rule, and the development has raised concerns over growing pressure on local communities.

The Taliban have previously used similar methods to strengthen their forces in provinces with anti-Taliban sentiment. However, the large-scale recruitment of Panjshiri youths raises questions about the extent of voluntary enlistment, ethnic inclusivity within Taliban ranks, and the underlying motives behind such campaigns.
