Taliban say beggar arrested in Maimana with 110,500 Afghanis in cash

The Taliban administration has said a professional beggar was arrested in Maimana, the capital of Faryab province, with 110,500 Afghanis in cash.

The Taliban-led Ministry of Interior said on Saturday that the individual was identified and detained by forces from the Faryab police command’s anti-narcotics management department, in cooperation with the Beggars Collection Commission, in the courtyard of the Khishti Mosque in Maimana.

According to the ministry, a search of the person’s home also recovered 110,500 Afghanis in cash.

The Taliban administration also said the process of collecting and examining the situation of beggars in Maimana is continuing, adding that the aim of the campaign is to prevent the exploitation of people’s emotions and to address the situation of those in need.

Maimana is the capital of Faryab province in northern Afghanistan, and the Khishti Mosque is one of the city’s well-known places.
