Taliban Accelerates Salang Highway Reconstruction Ahead of Winter

Contractors working on the reconstruction of the northern Salang road have reported that construction and repair work on the five-kilometre section is moving ahead quickly and is expected to be completed within the next month. The Taliban administration’s Ministry of Public Works has also said that asphalt laying and concrete work on the road, along with the construction of retaining walls in the northern and southern sections of Salang, are continuing.
According to the ministry, the aim is to complete the remaining work on the Salang highway reconstruction before the arrival of winter.
This comes as the quality and speed of reconstruction on vital roads are among the main concerns of residents in the central and northern provinces of the country, and delays in the work have negative consequences for road safety and the local economy.
