Pakistan council deputy calls for travel route to Afghanistan to allow direct talks

Khan Marjan, deputy of Pakistan’s newly established central government council, has in a recent interview stressed the need to open a route for travel to Afghanistan and urged Islamabad to create the conditions for direct talks with the Pakistan Taliban and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group.
He said that in previous negotiations with the Taliban, no violence or explosions were reported in Pakistan for about 90 days, which showed the positive impact of such talks.
Marjan then stressed that the Pakistan Taliban and Hafiz Gul Bahadur can only be understood through the language of friendship and compromise, and that there is no alternative to diplomatic and direct negotiations.
The remarks come as disputes between the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the central government in Islamabad over security policies and military operations against terrorism have created a serious crisis and deepened instability in the region.
