Taliban shuts down all private education centres in Nuristan

The Taliban administration has shut down all private education centres in Parun, the capital of Nuristan province, as part of ongoing restrictions imposed on education in Afghanistan.
According to information obtained from local sources by 8am Daily, the Taliban’s Department for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Nuristan sent a letter to the owners of these centres ordering them to close their educational facilities.
In the letter obtained by 8am Daily, the department asked the owners to appear before it with their operating licences. Earlier, the same department had warned these institutions several times not to expand their English-language teaching.
The move is another example of the educational restrictions the Taliban administration is imposing across the country on private centres, especially in the field of foreign language education, and it has significant negative consequences for young people’s access to quality education.
