Taliban shuts down all private education centres in Nuristan

As part of the restrictions imposed on education in Afghanistan, the Taliban administration has shut down all private educational centres in Parun, the capital of Nuristan province.
According to information obtained from local sources by the 8am newspaper, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Nuristan sent a letter to the owners of these centres ordering them to close their educational facilities.
In the letter, a copy of which was seen by 8am, the ministry asked the owners to appear before the office with their operating licences. Previously, the same office had repeatedly warned these institutions not to expand their English-language teaching.
The move is another example of the educational restrictions the Taliban administration is imposing across the country on private centres, particularly in the field of foreign language education, and it has significant negative consequences for young people’s access to quality education.
