Taliban Finance Ministry Says It Plans Capital Market to Boost Growth and Jobs

The Taliban administration’s Finance Ministry has claimed it is working to establish a capital market in Afghanistan to support economic growth and job creation.

The ministry said the first meeting on creating a capital market in Afghanistan has been held. Under the proposed plan, once the market is launched, financial resources will be allocated to productive, industrial, commercial and infrastructure projects.

The aim of the programme is said to be to increase economic growth and create job opportunities. However, practical measures that meet the real needs of Afghanistan’s economy still require transparency and enforceability.

Creating a capital market in developing countries is usually a positive step toward attracting domestic and foreign investment, but poor management records and low political stability in Afghanistan raise concerns about whether the Taliban administration’s promises will be fulfilled.

The Taliban Finance Ministry introduced the plan at a time when much of Afghanistan’s economy remains under restrictions and adverse conditions, and many entrepreneurs and investors are still suffering from a lack of legal transparency and economic stability.
