Rabid Dog Injures 16 Women and Children in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan
Officials at Badakhshan’s Agriculture Department say a rabid dog in the village of Kari, in the seventh district of Fayzabad city, injured 16 women and children and also caused damage to three livestock animals.
According to Kikaus Taksari, spokesman for the Badakhshan Agriculture Department, the incident ended after local residents killed the dog. He said the animal was killed after attacking people in the area.
The spokesman added that some of the injured were taken to health centres to receive anti-rabies vaccination. He did not provide further details on the health condition of all those affected.
Rabies is a dangerous viral disease that is usually transmitted to humans and other animals through the bite of infected animals, especially dogs. Fayzabad is the capital of Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan.
