Afghanistan Polio-Free Initiative Urges Expanded Child Vaccination

The Afghanistan Polio-Free Initiative has stressed the need to vaccinate all children and called for vaccines to reach those who are still deprived of the service. On Sunday, 3 November, the organisation said on its official page on the social media platform X that no child should be infected with polio, a preventable disease.
On the occasion of World Polio Day, the organisation said efforts to vaccinate children should be expanded so that the last unvaccinated children are also covered. Polio is a viral and highly contagious disease that mainly affects children and can cause permanent paralysis.
Vaccinating children has been described as the main way to prevent the disease. Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 42 positive cases of type 1 poliovirus were identified in Afghanistan in 2026, raising concerns about the spread of the disease.
