Acting Afghan Water Minister Urges Completion of Taimur Canal in Kandahar

While many residents of agricultural areas struggle with water shortages and infrastructural challenges, the acting Minister of Water and Energy of the Taliban administration has emphasized the urgent completion of the reconstruction and cleaning work on the Taimur Canal in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province.

The Ministry of Water and Energy of the Taliban administration announced that the canal is 1,170 meters long, and once completed, it will irrigate approximately 1,839 hectares of farmland. According to the ministry, nearly 20,000 families will benefit from this project.

Based on information provided by the ministry, the cost of implementing this project is estimated at nearly 110 million Afghanis. This comes as providing standard irrigation infrastructure remains one of the fundamental responsibilities of administrations in the agricultural sector, while farmers in various provinces continue to face widespread water scarcity issues.

Maiwand district is considered an important agricultural area in Kandahar, with a significant portion of its residents engaged in farming activities that directly depend on water resources.
