Construction Begins on Two Small Dams in Ghazni with 19 Million Afghani Budget

Taliban officials in Ghazni province have announced the commencement of construction on two small water dams in the ‘Shenaki Kariz’ area of Gilan district. According to them, a budget of 19 million Afghanis has been allocated for this project.

Mawlawi Sardar Mohammad Madani, Deputy Governor of the Taliban administration in Ghazni, told the media that the purpose of building these dams is to raise the groundwater levels, reduce the effects of drought, provide irrigation water, and prevent damage caused by floods.

Gilan district has faced water shortages and consecutive droughts in recent years, with residents consistently calling for serious attention to water resource management. However, the Taliban administration has not yet provided further details regarding the project’s completion timeline or oversight mechanisms for budget expenditure.

Agriculture experts emphasize that the success of such projects depends on transparent management, sustainable maintenance, and active participation of the local residents—issues that have posed challenges in many public projects in the country.
