UNICEF Continues Polio Vaccination Campaign in Herat

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that the polio vaccination campaign is ongoing throughout Herat province, with health teams striving to cover all children. According to UNICEF, polio is incurable but preventable through vaccination. The organization emphasizes that every child has the right to be protected against this disease and that access to vaccination services is a fundamental child right. UNICEF further noted that the campaign is being conducted with the support of the Saudi Arabian Humanitarian Aid Agency (KSRelief). Vaccinators are reaching children in villages and remote areas of Herat by administering two drops of the vaccine. Herat, a western province of Afghanistan, holds particular importance for full vaccine coverage due to border crossings and population density in some areas. Health organizations continuously stress the necessity of maintaining door-to-door campaigns to prevent the re-emergence of the disease.
