Taliban Builds Mosque Worth 87 Million Afghanis in Maidan Wardak

The Taliban administration has announced the construction of a mosque in Maidan Wardak province costing 87 million Afghanis, equivalent to about 1.4 million US dollars. The project was carried out by the National Development Company of Afghanistan, which operates under Taliban control.
According to published information, the mosque has been built in two floors and can accommodate two thousand worshippers. Additionally, a special hall for holding Tazieh ceremonies with a capacity of 750 people has been included.
Over the past nearly five years, the Taliban administration has prioritized the construction and expansion of large mosques and religious schools, launching similar projects in many provinces across the country.
This comes while poverty and hunger have increased in the country amid the focus on such projects, with millions of Afghans facing severe livelihood challenges. Some citizens say that, given many families cannot even afford to buy dry bread from bakeries, public resources should be concentrated on addressing the basic needs of the people.
