Severe Snowfall Cuts Imported Electricity from Uzbekistan to Kabul, Impacting Multiple Provinces

The power company, Breshna, announced that due to heavy snowfall and storms, the 220-kilovolt transmission line importing electricity from Uzbekistan along the Pul-e-Khumri to Kabul route has suffered a technical fault and been completely cut off. This incident has caused serious electricity problems in several provinces.

According to the company, the provinces of Kapisa, Panjshir, Kabul, Parwan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Logar, Paktia, Khost, and parts of Baghlan have experienced electricity shortages and frequent outages as a result of this event.

Breshna added that technical teams are ready to repair the issue but are waiting for the weather conditions to improve in the affected area due to ongoing adverse weather before beginning the restoration work on the transmission line.

The company’s statement also said that the technical problem with the imported power transmission line from Turkmenistan, which supplies electricity to Balkh and Faryab provinces, has been resolved, and the electricity supply in Balkh, Jowzjan, Sar-e Pol, and Faryab has returned to normal.

Meanwhile, central provinces of Afghanistan have experienced heavy and unprecedented snowfall, which has blocked several highways, especially the routes from the north to Kabul, significantly disrupting transportation and travel.
