Afghanistan’s UN Representative Calls for Enforcement of Taliban Arrest Warrants and Justice Guarantees

Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized on Wednesday during the UN General Assembly session on the International Criminal Court’s report that the enforcement of four arrest warrants issued against senior Taliban officials must be pursued rigorously. He also stressed the protection of victims, preservation of evidence, and prevention of retaliatory actions. Faiq warned that the international community’s engagement with the Taliban should not lead to overlooking repression or granting impunity. He recalled that Afghanistan needs an inclusive political process led by Afghans and shaped in cooperation with the United Nations, one based on the rights and demands of the people. He stated that without achieving justice, sustainable peace in Afghanistan is unattainable, and accountability holds value only when accompanied by concrete action.
