Taliban Administration Emphasizes Economic Cooperation with Russia

The Taliban administration held a coordination meeting on economic cooperation between Afghanistan and the Russian Federation, chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, in Kabul. At this meeting, the Ministry of Finance presented a report on the latest session of the Afghanistan-Russia Joint Economic Commission.
The administration announced that a plan to advance the work of the Joint Economic Commission has been prepared and sent to the Taliban leader’s office for final approval. Additionally, an economic cooperation document, drafted with Russia on the sidelines of the Kazan meeting in Tatarstan, has been completed and is expected to be signed soon with the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, strategies for implementing the decisions from the recent Joint Economic Commission meeting were discussed. Investment opportunities and priorities in various sectors, including infrastructure, trade, electricity, transportation, mining, higher education, agriculture, irrigation, livestock, health and pharmaceuticals, work visa issuance, telecommunications, and information technology were reviewed. Participants also identified investment opportunities and priorities within these fields.
However, while Afghanistan’s economy requires practical and sustainable measures to improve the livelihoods of its people, the Taliban administration’s focus on economic cooperation with Russia should be carefully evaluated. Genuine progress in the economic sector still faces significant limitations, and no independent official reports have yet been published to confirm the effective implementation of these initiatives.
