UNDP: Afghanistan’s future depends on opportunities for girls

The United Nations Development Programme in Afghanistan (UNDP) has warned on the occasion of International Day of the Girl that Afghanistan’s future is tied to the opportunities currently being made available to girls.

In a message on Sunday, 19 October, the agency stressed that investing in girls’ education, skills training and health can help strengthen communities and build a more “resilient” Afghanistan.

The UN Development Programme added that every girl should have the opportunity to develop her abilities and realise her potential.

International Day of the Girl is observed every year on 11 October, a day aimed at raising awareness of girls’ rights and highlighting the challenges and discrimination girls face in different countries.
