Taliban Says 104 Families Forcibly Returned to Afghanistan in One Day

The Taliban administration has announced that 104 families, including 448 people, were forcibly returned to Afghanistan in the past 24 hours, a development that places a new burden on vulnerable families and limited facilities at border crossings and in border provinces.

Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban administration, said in a statement on Sunday, 11 October, that 28 families comprising 138 people entered the country through the Torkham crossing in eastern Nangarhar province.

According to the statement, 11 families comprising 51 people returned to Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak crossing in southern Kandahar province.

Fitrat said 56 families comprising 225 people entered the country via the Pul-e Aibak route in Nimroz province, and nine families comprising 34 people entered through the Islam Qala crossing in western Herat province.

Torkham, Spin Boldak, Pul-e Aibak and Islam Qala are among the main transit and trade crossings along Afghanistan’s borders, and in recent months there have been repeated reports of waves of returnees, particularly forced returns, through these routes.
