Taliban administration announces nearly 5,000 health ministry vacancies

The Taliban administration has announced the start of the process to advertise nearly 5,000 vacant posts in the Ministry of Public Health in the capital and the provinces, saying eligible candidates will be recruited through open competition.

The issue was raised on Wednesday at a press briefing by the Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health. Qari Abdul Wali Siddiqui, the ministry’s deputy for finance and administration, said the purpose of the process is to recruit professional staff on the basis of merit and strengthen professional capacity in hospitals.

According to him, second- to sixth-grade posts are included in the programme. These posts cover specialists, doctors, supervisors, laboratory staff, X-ray and anaesthesia technicians, orthopaedic technologists, physiotherapists, civil engineers, and administrative and service staff.

The Taliban administration’s Ministry of Public Health said that 1,200 administrative and district health information management system posts in the provinces, and 1,800 professional posts in provincial public health directorates, have been opened to open competition. The ministry added that nearly 1,800 new and vacant posts at Al-Shifa Hospital will also be announced during the current year.

According to the Taliban administration’s Ministry of Public Health, recruitment for these posts will be carried out transparently, based on merit, field of study, educational documents and specified conditions. The Ministry of Public Health is one of the key institutions in delivering healthcare services in Afghanistan, and part of the population’s health needs in the capital and provinces are met through the ministry’s structure.
