Amnesty International Says Taliban Rule Has Reversed Rights and Freedoms in Afghanistan

Amnesty International says the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan has created a wide-ranging human rights crisis and significantly reversed two decades of gains in rights and freedoms.
In a statement on Monday, 26 Asad, the organization said that progress made over nearly two decades in the areas of rights and freedoms has effectively been wiped out in a short period since the Taliban returned to power.
According to Amnesty International, many of the rights Afghan citizens had secured through great effort in the 2004 constitution and under international human rights law have been lost.
Amnesty International also said it has reviewed the Taliban administration’s laws and decrees since August 2021 and called on the international community to take practical steps to end repression and human rights violations in Afghanistan.
The organization stressed that, by providing the necessary resources and tools, it supports human rights activists and advocates so they can stand with and show solidarity with Afghan citizens in different parts of the world.
Amnesty International is an international human rights organization whose reports and campaigns focus on documenting rights violations and drawing the attention of global institutions to conditions in countries.
