1,416 Afghan Prisoners Released and Returned from Pakistan This Week

The Press Office of the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation under the Taliban administration has announced that during this week, 1,416 Afghan migrants have returned to the country after being released from prisons in Pakistan. According to the ministry, these individuals entered Afghanistan through two border crossings after completing the release procedures.

Based on the published information, 1,083 of the released migrants entered through the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar province, while another 333 arrived via the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.

Torkham and Spin Boldak are among the most important border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, serving as major routes for migrant movement and trade exchange. In recent years, the detention and deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan have increased, raising widespread concerns.

Despite the repeated occurrence of such incidents, the Taliban administration has yet to provide details on practical measures to prevent the detention and mistreatment of Afghan migrants in Pakistan—a matter that has consistently drawn criticism from migrants’ families and human rights activists.
