Imported Electricity Cut off in Faryab and Jawzjan Provinces Due to Technical Issue

The head of the Barishna company in Faryab province has announced that the 220-kilovolt imported electricity line from Turkmenistan has been taken offline due to a technical problem. As a result, imported electricity to the provinces of Faryab and Jawzjan has been completely cut off.
According to the company’s statement, after the issue occurred along the electricity transmission route within Turkmenistan, the power supply to the city of Maymana, Andkhoy, and several districts in Faryab and Jawzjan has been disrupted. This event has caused widespread blackouts in urban areas and some surrounding regions.
Officials from Barishna in Faryab, operating under Taliban administration, have described the incident as a “technical problem,” but they have not provided details regarding the exact nature of the issue, the expected time for power restoration, or specific measures being taken to resolve it.
Frequent interruptions of imported electricity continue in northern provinces as residents repeatedly complain about lack of transparency in information dissemination and poor management of power networks. Heavy reliance on imported electricity and the absence of a clear plan to prevent such outages remain challenges that have yet to be seriously and responsively addressed by the Taliban administration.
