Taliban Administration Announces $10 Million in Contracts Signed at Kabul Telecom Expo
The first five-day Telecommunications and Information Technology Exhibition in Kabul concluded as the Taliban’s Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology announced the signing of nearly 30 memorandums of understanding and contracts worth a total of $10 million between domestic and foreign companies.
The exhibition took place at the Afghanistan International Exhibition Center, with its closing ceremony held on Monday. Taliban officials stated that the event aimed to expand technical and commercial cooperation and attract investment.
Hafiz Mohammad Amin Jan Amiri, the Financial and Administrative Deputy of the Taliban’s Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, said at the ceremony that the ministry’s leadership will strive to facilitate similar events in the future.
Additionally, Sheikh Abdul Karim Haider, Professional Deputy of the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice, emphasized the role of technology in today’s life and said the development of this sector is dependent on adherence to “Islamic and ethical values.”
Mullah Hamdullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Taliban administration, also claimed that besides showcasing technological products, the exhibition created opportunities for coordination and cooperation between the Taliban administration, the private sector, and innovative youth.
At the end of the exhibition, the Taliban’s Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology announced the launch of a “Transaction Guidance System.” According to ministry officials, approximately 150,000 people visited the exhibition over the five days.
This event was held amidst years of severe economic challenges and international restrictions faced by Afghanistan’s information technology and telecommunications sector.
