Dozens of Weapons Discovered in Jaghori District, Ghazni Province

Officials from the Taliban-affiliated police command in Jaghori district of Ghazni province have announced that dozens of weapons were discovered and confiscated from various areas of the district over the past three months.

According to these officials, among the seized weapons were 8 Kalashnikov rifles, 7 submachine guns, 3 sniper rifles, 4 carbines, 1 M16 rifle, 1 mortar base, and 18 rounds of ammunition.

Local authorities claimed that these weapons belonged to the government arsenal and had been illegally kept in the homes of several residents. They did not provide details regarding how these weapons were transferred to civilian residences.

Nevertheless, it remains unclear how these arms escaped the oversight of responsible agencies and ended up in the hands of unauthorized individuals. Experts have consistently emphasized that a lack of transparency in the management of weapons and ammunition can foment insecurity and mistrust among the population—an issue that requires serious accountability from the Taliban administration and its affiliated security bodies.
