Taliban tout Wakhan project as symbol of economic plans

The Taliban administration has described the Wakhan project as a symbol of its economic programme.
At the opening ceremony of the Abu Hanifa International Exhibition in Kabul, the economic deputy to the Taliban prime minister claimed that the administration is working to complete unfinished economic projects and advance infrastructure schemes.
He said that, alongside expanding regional connectivity and trade, the Taliban wants to turn Afghanistan’s borders “from a threat” into points of connection for economic cooperation.
According to him, the “Wakhan economic and trade corridor” is one example of these efforts, and the administration wants Afghan domestic products to have access to regional and international markets.
The Wakhan Corridor is located in northeastern Afghanistan. This narrow passage connects Badakhshan province to the border with China, and the route and potential of this area have been repeatedly raised in recent years in discussions on regional connectivity.
