Taliban Ministry Distributes Improved Seeds to 400 Farmers to Boost Sorghum and Soybean Cultivation

Officials from the Taliban-run Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock have announced the distribution of improved seeds of sorghum and soybean, along with chemical fertilizers, to 400 farmers across the country. The initiative aims to increase production levels and encourage farmers to adopt alternative crops in certain regions. Sorghum and soybean are among the crops that can diversify agricultural production and enhance farmers’ income sources.

However, agricultural experts emphasize that distributing seeds and fertilizers yields the best results when accompanied by sustainable training programs, market access, and proper water resource management. In recent years, farmers have faced significant challenges due to economic difficulties and widespread restrictions.

Farmers in many provinces struggle with water shortages, rising prices of agricultural inputs, and the lack of regular technical support. They expect the Taliban administration, beyond providing occasional aid, to implement long-term and transparent programs to foster the growth of the agricultural sector.
