US Approves Sale of 1,500 JDAM Bombs to Ukraine

The United States Department of State has announced approval for the potential sale of more than 1,500 guided air-dropped JDAM bombs with extended range and accompanying equipment to Ukraine. The value of this arms package has been declared at $373.6 million.

In a statement released by the department, it was noted that this deal aligns with the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States and will help strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.

JDAM bombs are essentially guidance kits attached to ordinary bombs that use satellite positioning systems to enhance targeting accuracy. The extended-range version allows strikes on targets at greater distances.

However, the US State Department emphasized that the sale of these weapons will not alter the military balance in the region. This move comes as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, with ongoing Western military support for Kyiv.
