Israeli Finance Minister Signals Plan for Full Control Over West Bank and Gaza

Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s Finance Minister, has announced that the country intends to seize more areas of the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria to expand territory under its control. These remarks come amid ongoing regional tensions.

According to regional media, he stated that Jews have returned to their claimed land after thousands of years and, he asserted, will not relinquish it. These comments reflect views rejected by Palestinians and many countries worldwide.

Smotrich also reported a rapid increase in the number of settlements in the West Bank, stressing that the goal is to achieve full control over the region and prevent the formation of an independent Palestinian state. The West Bank has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, and settlement construction there is considered illegal under international law.

These recent statements by the Israeli official are likely to provoke widespread regional and international reactions, as the issue of land occupation and settlement building remains a central element of the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
