Global Praise for Two-Week Iran-US Ceasefire Agreement

The United Nations Secretary-General has welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, emphasizing the importance of both parties adhering to their international commitments. Meanwhile, Egypt and Japan have also described the development as a positive step toward reducing regional tensions.

A spokesperson for António Guterres stated that the UN chief welcomes the ceasefire announcement and urges all involved parties to comply with their obligations under international law and the terms of the agreement. According to the spokesperson, halting hostile actions is crucial to protect civilian lives and alleviate humanitarian issues.

Guterres also expressed appreciation for the efforts made by Pakistan and several other countries in facilitating the process to reach this ceasefire. The United Nations believes that continuing this momentum could pave the way for further dialogue.

At the same time, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement welcoming the announcement by US President Donald Trump about suspending military operations, describing it as a “positive and significant development” towards easing regional tensions. Cairo emphasized that this opportunity should be used to advance negotiations and achieve political solutions.

Japan’s Cabinet also welcomed the signing of the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US, stating that efforts to safely reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz—a crucial route for global energy transport—will continue.

Donald Trump, in a message, said that he had received a ten-point proposal from Iran and considered it a reliable basis for negotiation. He added that the two-week ceasefire period would provide a chance to advance talks toward finalizing an agreement.
