Over 800 Families Forced to Return to Afghanistan in Past Six Days, Says Taliban

The Taliban administration has announced that in the past six days, 819 families totaling 3,850 individuals have been forcibly returned to Afghan territory. Hamdullah Fetret, the deputy spokesperson for the administration, stated that among them, 199 families equivalent to 999 people entered the country through the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar province.

He added that 498 families, comprising 2,196 individuals, returned via the Silk Bridge in Nimroz province. Additionally, 57 families totaling 327 people crossed through the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar, and 65 families equivalent to 228 individuals entered through the Islam Qala border in Herat province.

A recent United Nations report shows that over the past three years, nearly 4.9 million Afghan migrants have returned to their country. This large-scale return has increased pressure on essential services, healthcare facilities, and job opportunities, especially in border provinces.

So far, the Taliban administration has not implemented effective measures to manage this flow of refugees or to support their interests. The forced return of families has raised widespread concerns among human rights organizations and civil society groups.
