Afghanistan and Turkmenistan Agree to Expand Transit and Road Transport

At the end of a two-day meeting in Herat, delegations from Afghanistan and Turkmenistan agreed to expand relations between the two countries in the transport and transit sectors.

Under the agreement, the two sides comprehensively reviewed issues related to transport and transit and stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in this area. It was also agreed that a joint commission would be established to address matters related to road transport.

The meeting also discussed facilitating the visa issuance process for drivers and traders, as well as increasing traffic along transit routes between the two countries.

Herat is in western Afghanistan and borders important regional trade routes, while Turkmenistan is one of Afghanistan’s neighbours to the northwest, and its shared crossings are important in transit exchanges.
