Guterres says military power alone cannot guarantee security

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the 81st session of the UN General Assembly that military power alone cannot guarantee security, and that economic strength by itself is not a guarantee of stability.

He warned that wars over the past decade have left devastating consequences and have continued with widespread violence. According to him, civilians have been targeted in these conflicts, human rights have been violated, and hunger has been used as a weapon of war.

Guterres made the remarks on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly. In his speech, he stressed the inability of purely military and economic tools to ensure security and stability.
