More than 500 kg of narcotics seized in Takhar

Security officials in Afghanistan’s Takhar province have said that more than 500 kilograms of narcotics were seized in several search operations in the province over the past two days.

Naqibullah Masroor, the spokesman for the Takhar police command, said anti-narcotics units of the force recovered and confiscated 97 kilograms of opium and 26 kilograms of hashish from several vehicles in the provincial capital and Rustaq district.

According to him, nine people from the provinces of Helmand and Takhar were arrested in connection with the incidents.

He added that during the same operations, 420 kilograms of opium were also found and seized from a private ambulance used to transport the drugs.

Takhar is located in northeastern Afghanistan, and Rustaq is one of the province’s districts. Narcotics remain among the persistent security and criminal challenges in parts of Afghanistan.
