Panjshir Emeralds Sold for More Than 16 Million Afghanis in Raw Form

Local officials in Panjshir have announced that emeralds from the province were sold at auction to domestic and international traders for 16.762 million Afghanis, highlighting the continued sale of one of the country’s valuable stones in raw form.

Saifuddin Laton, spokesman for the Panjshir provincial authorities, told Bakhtar News Agency that the auction was held with the participation of local traders and a number of international traders. According to him, the growing presence of foreign traders in Panjshir emerald auctions has further boosted the market for this precious stone.

He also said the emeralds were sold in the presence of Panjshir’s mines protection committee. The published text did not provide details on the exact quantity of emeralds sold, their type, or how the stones were processed or added value within the country.

Panjshir is one of Afghanistan’s well-known provinces for emerald mining, and the stone is among the province’s most valuable mineral resources. Emeralds are among the stones that could gain higher economic value if processed and packaged inside the country.
