Taliban Administration Announces Appointment of New Non-Resident Belarusian Ambassador to Afghanistan

The Taliban’s foreign ministry announced on Sunday, October 31, that Alexander Sergeyevich Ogorodnikov has been appointed as the new non-resident ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Afghanistan. The Belarusian diplomat presented his credentials to Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban.
During the meeting, Amir Khan Muttaqi emphasized the expansion of economic cooperation and regional ties between the Taliban and Belarus. Muttaqi stressed the importance of developing relations between the two sides.
In response, the new Belarusian ambassador pledged to work towards increasing trade and economic relations with the Taliban administration during his mission. Despite claims of expanding cooperation, such collaboration is being discussed amid a context where many countries around the world, including the international community, have not established formal diplomatic relations with the Taliban administration and have imposed sanctions on the regime.
