Pakistan Declares Counterterrorism a Red Line and Non-Negotiable

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on Saturday, November 30, that counterterrorism and ensuring the security of its people are red lines and non-negotiable. The ministry identified terrorism as the most significant challenge in bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan and pointed to its roots within Afghan territory as the primary cause for the failure of talks between the two countries.

The statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Information emphasized that “the Afghan Taliban regime must understand that Pakistan will not tolerate any safe havens for terrorists along the border areas, as these sanctuaries endanger the security of the Pakistani people, and we will not allow our citizens to become victims of terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan.”

The ministry called on the Taliban administration to take responsibility for countering security threats emanating from Afghan soil towards Pakistan. The statement further stressed that “Pakistan’s determination to protect its people should not be mistaken for weakness, and the Taliban’s repeated refusal to combat terrorism remains the main obstacle to establishing normal relations between the two countries.”
