Doctors remove nearly 30 nails from patient’s stomach at Sardar Daoud hospital

A medical team at the 400-bed Sardar Mohammad Daoud Khan Hospital has removed nearly 30 nails from a patient’s stomach in an endoscopic procedure.

Health officials said the patient had been taken to the hospital after swallowing a large number of nails, and treatment was started immediately after his condition was assessed.

According to officials, specialists in the endoscopy department removed all the metal objects from the patient’s stomach without any serious complications. They added that carrying out the procedure quickly was important to prevent possible damage to the patient’s digestive system.

Hospital officials have so far not released further details about why or how the patient swallowed the nails.

Endoscopy is a therapeutic and diagnostic procedure used in gastroenterology, in which doctors use special instruments to examine the inside of the stomach and digestive tract and, in some cases, remove foreign objects.
