UNDP says nearly 180,000 people tested for tuberculosis in Afghanistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan has said that between April and June 2026, 179,845 people across Afghanistan were tested through the Global Fund project for tuberculosis.

In a post on X on Sunday, 22 Sonbola, the agency said the process has made it possible for people to access active case-finding services, diagnosis and comprehensive tuberculosis treatment.

According to the agency, these services are part of efforts to identify patients early and prevent the spread of the disease in Afghanistan.

Tuberculosis, or TB, is an infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs and is transmitted through the air from an infected person to others. Timely diagnosis and early treatment are considered important factors in controlling the disease.

The Global Fund is an international donor agency that finances programmes to combat diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS and malaria, and some health programmes in Afghanistan are also supported through this mechanism.
