UAE Company Shows Interest in Investing in Afghanistan, Taliban Say
The Taliban administration has said that a company from the United Arab Emirates has expressed interest in investing in the construction of the second Salang Tunnel, pharmaceutical manufacturing plants and some other sectors in Afghanistan.
According to a statement from the Economic Affairs Deputy Office of the Prime Minister, the issue was discussed at a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Investment Committee, and the proposal from HHM Global Industry Group was welcomed by the committee. The Taliban administration said the relevant ministries and institutions had also expressed their readiness to cooperate with the company.
The company was then asked to prepare its plans for investment in the second Salang Tunnel, pharmaceutical manufacturing plants and other sectors, and submit them to the Inter-Ministerial Investment Committee for review.
The Salang Tunnel is considered one of Afghanistan’s vital transit routes and connects the north and south of the country. In the cold season and during natural events, this route has repeatedly faced transportation problems.
