More Than 11,000 Carats of Panjshir Emeralds Sold at Auction

The Taliban administration in Panjshir has said that 11,192 carats of emeralds extracted from mines in the province, along with three emerald samples, were sold at auction on Tuesday.

According to Saifuddin Latun, the governor’s spokesman in Panjshir, the emeralds were valued at 307.852 million Afghanis. He released the information in a press release.

The Panjshir governor’s spokesman said nearly 1,000 domestic and foreign traders took part in the auction. He added that three Chinese traders were also among the participants.

Panjshir is one of Afghanistan’s best-known provinces for emerald extraction, and its mines are considered an important source of gemstones in the country.
