Norway’s King Harald V dies at 89

Norway’s Royal Palace has announced that King Harald V died in the early hours of Friday, 28 August 2026, at the age of 89.

According to the royal palace, he died at 6:35 a.m. at Oslo University Hospital. The statement said the King of Norway died peacefully.

Reports said Harald V had been hospitalised because of haemolytic anaemia and later a bacterial blood infection. After his condition was reported to have worsened on Thursday night, members of the royal family went to his bedside.

Harald V had been King of Norway for years, and the country’s Royal Palace has officially announced his death. Oslo, the Norwegian capital, is home to the royal family and the country’s main state institutions.
